Hard disk cracking/spinning sound.

hello guys,

my 500gb hard disk is having a cracking sound lately. not a loud sound tho.

checked using Hard Disk Sentinel it shows the hard disk is healthy i.e green coded color.

should i keep using it? or maybe some method to at least rectify the issue?

this is an older drive? does the sound happen all the time or only when accessing?
as drives age they tend to get louder.
testing the drive is the only real way to tell.
the drive manufacturer should provide a testing program on their website.

I do not trust any hardware out of warranty, HDDs least of all if the drive is out of warranty I suggest replacement.

yes it's quite old since 2009. it will make the sound during booting and of course when accessing.
i'll go to the website to test. it's from hitachi by the way.

Replace it. A 1tb drive runs about 40 bucks new on newegg or a 2tb is about 60 bucks. Drive prices are low enough, the smart move is to replace it and keep it in case of any data on it you may need.
