Hard disk detection by BIOS intermittent

Hi , I have googled for the above and read some reviews on the issue . Currently , when it is not detected by BIOS , I do a power cycle and then it gets detected . As per suggestions given by many experts I have examined the power cable of mobo , sata cable ,loose connections etc. The hdd is about a year old with very minimum usage , so there is no chance of bad sectors etc. Its almost new considering my usage . There is no problem with mobo also . The RAM is also good.

Of late , there are freezes in windows after 10 minutes of booting . There are horizontal lines all over the screen and it reboots. The default chkdsk sucks with little information being provided after a scan . The log said something being repaired about security descriptors.

My hard disk is formatted as a GPT partition wit UEFI boot.

How can I find out if

1. Its a hardware issue or
2. Mere reformat and reinstall will solve the issue

I ran the "disk checkup utility" (freeware) , everything is Ok - the long and short check , the SMART tests etc.

if the gpu has issues you may be looking at power supply that not holding within atx spec. check the voltage reading in the bios (12v line or use hardware info 64 bit set it to sensor and logging). pull the gpu try onboard video and see if the drive issue is there.

Hi Thanks ..I did not give the full details to assess the load .. I have 3 SATA HDs ( 2- 1TB drive and 1 320GB drive). I have connected printer to 1 USB , 1 optical mouse to 1 USB port , 1 logitech speaker to 1 USB port , 1 Keyboard - PS/2 slot , 1 DVD writer , No GPU, only using onboard video.

To be absolutely sure that the HDD is not faulty you should test it with the manufacturer's diagnostic software.

Seagate SeaTools can test any make of HDD.
WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic will only test WD HDDs, or at least there must be a WD HDD connected to the PC.

CLOSED - Well there was no real solution and it died a few days later. Maybe symptoms of a dying disk.. The diagnostic tools (Easeus) detected plenty of bad sectors and the whole disk was inaccessible from Win or Linux after the test.
