Hard disk going bad?

A week ago i had a massive slow down and realised that the hard disk is not showing in disk management and disk defragment.

then i decided to backup and install a clean copy of win xp.


after the install has completed the hdd did show up in disk management and disk defragment. then i ran a surface scan for bad sectors using ontrack easy recovery pro and didn't return any bad sectors

then i ran the patition test and it returning this line:

partion c: minor errors

i then did fixmbr and fixboot from recovery console re-ran the test and got the same result in the partition test.

do you think the hard disk has started to go bad?

To be sure, run a test that involves SMART. SMART is typically a good indicator of whether or not a drive will fail sooner than later. I'd recommend Active Smart to do so.

smart test passed even the surface scan passed

but when i run the partition test it is still returning c: passed with minor errors

i tried chekdisk and fixmbr and fixboot still the same problem


the system has also passed Memtest V.4.0

HDD: Western Digital 10,000RPM 70GB edition
