Recently I have been trying to clone an old failing hard drive to a new WD black 1000gb 7200rpm drive. During the cloning an error popped up that said a sector failed and to fix this retry then if still not working go to the disk utility and check its status by backing it up. For the cloning to work do I have to totally back up the disk or is there something else to do because I was a little confused.

Solution
If the clone software (or any software) can't read that sector, it will fail.

Possibly run chkdsk /f to attempt to 'fix' it. But if it is already dying, messing with it more may make it worse.
Ok yeah it is a six year old drive that I am fixing in my dad's pc because whenever he boots he gets the error message that his drive is failing so we decided to get a new one to clone it. Also I am using the Acronis True Image wd edition, but i will try to run chkdsk /f.
