Hard Drive Cloning

I recently purchased a laptop and it come with Windows 8.1 and a 1tb 5400RPM drive. I wanted to upgrade the drive to a SSD or a 7200RPM drive. I was wondering if I will lose my license/activation of Windows. I will be putting cloned drive in the same laptop and keeping the old one as a backup.
Since this is a fresh install of Windows and I only uninstalled some bloatware i only use up around 40GB. Would I still be able to clone the 1tb drive to a 120gb ssd? I will be putting both drives in a desktop and will use a cloning software.
This is the drive I'm considering getting. As of this time, the drive is $150 off.

You will be fine license-wise. The only thing that will invalidate the OEM license will be a MB change. And Win8 has even changed that to allow the OS to be used on 3 machines (but not at the same time). In your case, that isn't an issue.

I just did the same thing with my Thinkpad and Win7. It had a 320GB HDD. I used my desktop to clone the HDD to the SSD using http://www.easeus.com/download/tbf-download.html

If you are using a commercial cloning program like the ones that come with the SSD, the twaeks may already be done for you.
