Hard Drive Died. Can I Deactivate Windows?

Hi guys.
I had a hard drive suffer complete failure the other day. It no longer spins, the motor died completely. With it went a x64 copy of windows 7 Ultimate. Is there any way I can deactivate that copy? I would really like to be able to use it on the new hard drive, I don't have the money to go buy another $120 copy of the OS.

There's really no such thing as deactivating an old version of Windows. Just install Windows to your new hard drive and activate the product key.

As long as the product key isn't in use on two different computer at the same time you should be fine.

The copy of windows I had was a multiple install windows 7 ultimate with both 32 bit and 64 bit disks. I do not know the effects of having the hard drive die with an activated copy of windows on it.

As long as the dead drive isn't being used anymore (and it can't be from what you're describing) you won't have a problem reinstalling Windows.

Ok. I just didn't know if Microsoft had some other way of keeping track of their OS's. And no, the drive is most certainly dead.
