Solution

Before going to that extent lets have a look at your computer management first.

try this: CLick on start, in the run box type without quotes "computer management and hit enter. In the left side panel click on disk management.

this will bring up an over view of your HDD. it will tell you if there is any partitions and if all space has been allocated.

Unallocated space will have a black line above it and it is unusable space so there should be none.

If there are partitions there will be drive letters after on them. you will have a minimum of 2 partitions at all times. They will be 1. System Reserved and 2. (C.) drive. anything more than this means your hard...
go to "control panel" and set it to "classic" look. Then find "folder options" in side this click on "View" find where it says "Hidden files and folders" and set it to "Show hidden files, folders and drives". Now refresh the Computer window and it should show another drive. A restart may be required but I don't believe it will.

your drive has been partitioned so you have 2 logical drives not just one. This is not to say that you have 2 physical hard drives because you only have one But that one has been split into 2 different sections. For some reason the other section is set to be hidden and this is why you did not see it before changing the settings.

let me know what you find or even screen shot it.

Ahh this will now be either a partition that windows can not read or un allocated space. If windows can not read it then follow my directions in my last post and right click on the partition and select format. format the partition and it will be usable again.

the same holds true with unallocated space. right click and select format and the partition will be usable again.

Linux uses a different format than windows does and windows cant read that format style.
