Hard Drive Issue

Hello,

Everytime I play certain games e.g. Cod ww2 beta and black desert online my disc usage spikes up constantly from 0 to 100% and it makes the game very stuttery. I know the issue is not the gpu but I think that it may be the hard drive. it is quite old and about 85% full. Any suggestions?

defragmentations may help. the game alone may not use HHD access hole time some other program probably running in a background updates and etc.

Check health of your drive. Use HDtune health, post screenshot.

If your drive is damaged, then defragmenting is the last thing to do.

You'll want to scan the drive first to make sure it's healthy. We have a free diagnostic software called SeaTools here. Other manufacturers typically have something along these lines as well.

After that, if the drive reports healthy, you can defragment the drive by following the steps in our Knowledge Base article.

Yeah, it has relocated sectors. Not good.
It still has plenty of spare sectors though. But you have to keep an eye on it and check regularly, if relocated sectors or pending sectors increase.
It probably is time to think about getting a new drive.
