Hard drive making loud clicking / scratchy noise

Hello everybody, My solid state has recently gotten full so I started putting some games / movies on my WD black caviar hard drive , when I go to start games it makes a very loud and fast clicking noise im afraid its gonna break or something.. any idea whats causing this?

Immediately remove it, this is the sound of the hard drive dying. Clone it as soon as possible onto a new drive, this is a very common issue, google hard drive ticking

I would advise not, as you risk total hard drive failure

"loud clicking / scratchy noise" means it could actually die as I'm writing this.

Unplug it until you have a replacement.
Then, your first and only use should be to copy stuff from the dying drive to the new one.

By next week I will have a new drive. In the meantime Im not worried about it failing I just don't want it to catch fire or something and ruin other expensive parts.

And what are you putting on this dying drive?
Whatever it is, consider it a throwaway. Once the drive dies, you will not be able to retrieve anything from it.

Stop using it! Order a new one, put them both in, clone it using a free cloning software, and then take the old one out.
