I've just noticed that my computer has like a grinding noise coming out of it? I think it's the hard drive but I just want to make sure before I have to reinstall windows or something... I hope there is a fix because I don't want to have to go through that process. Thank you! I have a WD Green 2TB drive btw.

Solution

Install and run the WD Data Lifeguard.
See what it returns.
Usually with HDDs its just better to be safe then sorry. There is software out there such as acronus or clonezilla that will clone your current HDD onto a new one so you don't have to go through the process of reinstalling everything on a new HDD.

Awesome thank you so much! That is a sign of a faulty HDD right? I'm not fully positive that it is the HDD making the noise.

Install and run the WD Data Lifeguard.

Imaging or cloning only works if you do it before the drive dies.

I ran the quick test and it said it passed.

I only have two fans running, my CPU cooler and a case fan, and I put my ear to the bottom right of the case (where my HDD is) and you can definitely tell it is coming from there.

Might be just a loose screw.
But I'd run the full test with DataLifeguard...not just the quick.

I think I'm just going to buy a new drive off Amazon and an SSD and just reinstall windows. I have fast download times so everything should download quick, just will be tedious to re sign into everything, but whatever. Thank you all!
