Well it said for me to post here so I will.

Recently I built my first computer and after some trial & error I got the computer running, yay! So I went into the bios, saw my RAM was installed and since it was I was excited, so then I went to the ATA Port information and then...

Oh dear.

In my SATA 1 port my optical drive was running, but sadly, my storage wasn't. Something tells me it's just busted base on my luck since I've ha to send back half of my parts but hopefully I'm just doing something wrong

I'm running a Ga-F2A55M-DS2 motherboard with a 1 TB barracuda hard drive

Help would be lovely, thanks.

Okay, can you see your drive in the BIOS when you choose your boot sequence? Even if the drive is unallocated, it should be detected by the BIOS no matter...
Go open your start menu, and type in Device Manager, a new window should open.

You should see "Disk Drives" double click on it.

Do you see it there?

If you see it there, but the hard drive is not showing on your "Computer"

then type in "Create and format hard disk partitions" on your start menu.

You should see the Hard Drive there.

Quick format that in NTFS mode. "default settings"

by right clicking it.
Make sure you delete any extra partitions you may have on it.

DO NOT format the wrong hard drive. (One that has the Operating system on it)

If you can't see your drives in the BIOS, then something's wrong with your cable connection or maybe even the hard disk itself. Otherwise if you can see your drives in the BIOS, follow what Andy said.

You should try finding it in the device manager.

My friend had the same problem, I had to take a look at it, but yet I could not find it in the bios for the life of me.
weird.

I can't get into device manager without installing the operating system ... can I o.o?

I just managed to see I didn't include that I have not installed the operating system yet T_T

Okay, can you see your drive in the BIOS when you choose your boot sequence? Even if the drive is unallocated, it should be detected by the BIOS no matter what at start up. Or how about this. When you connect your SATA and power cables from your hard disk to your mobo, can you check if the disk spins up at startup?

Solution

It doesn't spin and its not not detected in the boot sequence

Okay I'm certain that the problem is not with Windows detecting your drive. It's a hardware problem, though the problem could be with the hard disk itself, or the power cable, or something else... Perhaps you could try switching power cables, and changing the SATA port just to make sure that it's your hard disk that is really spoilt?

Well shoot, earlier I tried to use the SATA cord that I used on the optical drive to the hardware, that was no luck, and I tried sata 1,2,3,4 so I guess its the hardware xc?

Yep I think your drive needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Haha I hope you connected both. The two ports for the cables are side-by-side on your hard disk. SATA cable goes to the SATA port on your mobo, and the power goes direct to your PSU. If you didn't plug in the power, it would explain why your drive does not spin up to begin with.
