Hey guys, I've got a problem that, from what I've seen, is unique to myself.

I just upgraded my 32 bit Windows 7 to 64 bits. After upgrading, however, one of my hard drives has completely disappeared from My Computer.

Here's an image of my problem.

(Apologies if the image is too small)

The missing hard drive is the one I have selected on the left, but is missing from the right.

Thanks in advance!

The drive in question will be in disk management even though it is not listed in my computer. Right click on computer and select manage then in the window that pops up select disk management , your drive will be listed there as unallocated space. Right click on the drive and set the new partition and then format it and give it a drive letter.

Is there a way to access the drive without formatting?

I have had to install XP on a new SATA drive and that works fine (I opted for NTSC file system)

The older drive passed a diagnostic test but I dont want to loose the files, photos, music etc from the old/previous SATA drive.

If I connect the old drive to the 2nd SATA socket disc management sees the drive but it isnt lised on "My Computer" (the old drive is FAT32 if that makes any difference)

How can access and move the files over from the old drive to new drive?

The computer is a Dell Dimension 500 if that helps

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

I have done this, however my 3TB hard drive was already split between 2047 GB and another block next to it with 746 GB and I odnt know hoe to attach them...

Thank you so much! This was the problem for me. I was able to find it in Disk Management but not my OS, and this fixed it.

pertaining to the partition question an olderish program called partition magic 8 is the most comprehensible program I've ever used for partitioning. it is really useful anybody can do it with partition magic 8 one of the best and easiest programs I've ever used

personally I just search disk management and it comes up with: "create and format hard disk partions" click on that and it shows all your connected drives then you can just right click on it and use a formatting wizard, makes things easier

i have same issue with my hard disk, it is unallocated but when i right click on it it doesnt show any option to allocate it

any suggestions???/

Thank you so very much! You've just made my day!

I have exactly the same problem.

C drive for OS, D drive all my data.
But D drive not showing up after performing windows update. But it can be seen in the Disk Management.

Solution:
I installed EASEUS Partiting Master (Free edition), select the unallocated space (missing partition), then resize the drive. After that, giving a letter to the drive (e.g D), then it will be shown in My Computer, and get all my files back without format the drive!

yes there is a way to get info off the hard drive just get a Hard drive dock or a hard drive adapter and you can get info off of it when you hook those up to another computer

Update:
Ok I took several pictures while in BIOS and my second HD is indeed there but not viewable in my OS. I also took a pic of a message that pops up when I start windows. Something about doing disk storage etc. I really don't want to delete or reformat my second drive, I just want it back! All my music, steam games, and 3d stuff is on that 500 gb drive. Hope this new info helps!
