I will be installing the ssd with the os but without the hard drive connected. Once that is done i replug the hard drive, boot up the system and i'm aware the hard drive needs partitioning. So how do i do this? Any tips? Have you done it on your own and whats the best direction to go involving ssd and hdds ?

Solution
The hard drive does not need partitioning beyond a single partition.

If it is a brand new drive, open Disk Management.
Right click on that drive, and it should prompt you to Initialize. Follow the prompts after that.
Hi there Skarim5,

Is this an old drive? ( you've said re plug) Do you have some data stored on it?

If this is the case, it would be nice to back up the data stored on it.
After the OS is installed on the SSD and after you replug the drive. Most probably, you will be able to access the drive right away. In case you can't, you will need to repartition and reformat it.

In case this is a new drive, just initialize -> partition and format it as USAFRet suggested.
