So I'm looking to increase the amount of storage I have in my rig, and I decided a 4TB drive would be ideal. I'm curious what drives you guys would recommend. It needs to have decent performance, as this will hold all of my games. Right now I'm thinking about Seagate's 4TB, but I don't know if there's something a bit better out there. (WD Black is not an option, it doesn't perform as well as the Seagate and costs way more).

The Seagate 4TB:

Um, the western digital black smokes that drive.

This is not mentioning that you linked a 5900 RPM drive.

Comparing the western digital black to that drive is night and day. Western Digtal Blacks are high quality, high speed drives. The one you linked is low speed, low quality. Seagate only gives you a 2 year warranty vs the 5 year warranty that you get with a WD black. That alone says more than enough.

You should avoid 4 TB drives. They have a higher failure rate than 2 TB and 3 TB, 2 TB having the lowest failure rate. This is because they have to cram more than one disc into the drive, thus increasing the number of possible mechanical failures and vibration.

This is pretty good

I'm weary of the WD Black cause I've seen some pretty pathetic benchmarks of it. Plus the price. Also, forgot to mention I already have an old 2TB WD Green currently acting as my storage drive. Its almost full. So it's gonna be either a 3TB or a 4TB.

I get 224 MB/s write on my blacks. That's by far the fastest I've ever had for a hard drive. Can't really get better performance then that unless you get an SSD.

Why not attach more drives externally? Is there something wrong with the 2 TB drive you have now?

It's extremely slow. When I said old, I meant it. Its only SATA II just to give you an idea. I'm probably gonna keep it for a backup device and stuff like that, but I need something faster for games and things like that. I don't need anything crazy fast, cause neither OS will be on here. Just something large with decent read performance. I don't really like 3-5 minute load times in Battlefield 😉
