Hard drive shows up in BIOS but not disk management or device manager?

I purchased a Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB hard drive, and it shows up in my BIOS. I checked diskmgmt.msc, and device manager for the drive, but it's not there.

Are these the symptoms of a dead drive?

Pretty well yes. Disk management should show at least as RAW and Device manager should show at least as an unknown device.

got a new one and it worked!
