Hard Drive Thickness

Does anyone know if the MSI GL62M 7RDX-1408 uses a 7mm or a 9.5mm hard drive? My 1TB hard drive died and I need to purchase a replacement. Trying to order one before I open the case to remove it. Thanks.

Not sure, honestly. If your HDD died, you could always remove it & see what the actual model is.

Most 7mm drives will come with a 9.5mm adapter though too (or could be ordered separately), covering both options.

I realize this but the laptop is at my daughter's place and I was hoping to have a drive here when she brings it over for replacement.

I would just order a 7mm drive then. Worst-case scenario, you might have to figure out a DIY spacer to meet the 9.5mm mounting, but you should be fine with a 7mm drive.

MSI wouldn't tell you? they want u to buy from them$$? 🙁

A 7 will always fit into a 9.5 slot, just not viceversa.

I looked at the MSI website but could not find any reference as to the thickness of the drive. I did just end up ordering a 7mm drive with the hope that if the original drive is a 9.5mm, my replacement drive will have some type of adapter included for use on the 9.5mm cage/mount.
