Hard drives very slow

For some reason, about two days ago I went on my computer after work, just like I usually do daily and for some reason everything was running more slowly than before and now is even slower. I have two hard drives, the first one being a few years old, and the second maybe a month old, so suddenly BOTH of them run very slow now I have no idea why whenever I try to load anything on them disk usage goes up to 100% and doesn't load shit

My disk 0 right now is litterally at 100% with 400 kb/s write speed, disk 1 100% with 13kb/s

Solution
Have you tried using different SATA and power cables? You can attach the drive to another port as well.
What is your OS? Does the issue persists when you boot into safe mode?

I believe you can run disk check as well: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/guide-to-using-check-disk-in-windows-vista/

It could be that one of the drives is failing. Even one failing drive can cause the SATA controller to hang and make everything crawl.

Just a couple questions. What are the models of the drives? (some are very prone to failure)

Also, have you tried disconnecting the auxiliary drive to see if the OS drive will operate normally without it?

The modes are

disk 0: WDC WD10EZEX-60ZF5A0

disk 1: ST1000NM0033-9ZM173

and no I did not try disconnecting

also another thing, two days ago I changed my system fan in the back with a new one.. but I really don't think that couldve done anything.. But it started since then

I tried disconnecting both one by one but whenever I did that it told me to connect a boot device or something similar on both of them

Also note that both drives have been working perfectly, it's just two days ago something happened I dont know what..

I'm still getting this problem.. someone help please..

I just ran a sea tools test, ran a short drive self test and the WDC etc drive failed at 90%, the ST etc passed the test

Hi there LunarMaster,

That is really unpleasant. 🙁

As most probably your WD drive is failing, my suggestion would be to back up the data stored on the drive. After that, you can run both short and extended DLG tests on the drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Bh4nJ6
If you get similar results, then you will need to replace the drive. If it is under warranty, you can contact the place you got it from or our Support and eventually RMA it: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=yg0Iyy

As for the fact that your system will not boot even if you take your secondary drive out, I believe that this is caused by the fact that a part of your OS installation is located on your secondary drive. You should always install OS when there's only one drive attached.

Let us know in case you have some more questions,

So I just cloned my old hard drive (WDC) to the new one ST something, booted with only the new one connected, but still gets to 100% disk usage to nothing
