This is a drive that was in a Mac and stopped booting. It was replaced and I decided to see if I could get some data off of it using an external dock on my windows 7 PC. That could be the issue but I'm not knowledgeable enough about it to know how that works.

The drive shows in Disk Management but it has no right click options other than Delete and Help. Attached is a screenshot. It does not show under My Computer obviously.

Is there anything I can do that will allow me access to it?

Thanks!
Nancy

Thanks so much for that info. I've installed it and used it but it says "could not find any file systems on device." I'm assuming that means they are lost.

I thought sure that did it... It shows all the folders, as you can see in the screenshot, and I can get into every one of them except the one with her name under Users. Which is where I assume her files are. It hangs when I try and says "Could not access Mac volume."

This is actually my granddaughters computer. She's only 10 but she had a bunch of photos and videos of her and her best friend. She recently moved out of state and is heartbroken about losing them. The sad tales of those who don't do backups. Ü

I'm not familiar with macs so I have no idea why I could get into all the other areas of the drive but not that one. I do appreciate you trying to help me. Somethings things are just lost. Such is life.

It's empty. That did prompt me to dig in other folders and I found some of her videos under Users/mac/pictures/photo booth. But its only a few and no photos anywhere. Wish I could search using this program.

She'll be thrilled to have even those back. I'll keep searching as there are a ton of folders. But most are system folders.

I retrieved the files! I tried to copy the folder as suggested and it still gave me an error. But as the Transmac utility could at least see the drive it then made me think to try an old software programI had that I'd forgotten about. RecoverMy Files. I did and the drive showed up as it did in Transmac but it let me search it and it found files and save them to my computer.

Thank again for the help and advice. I doubt I would have gone this far without the added incentives. I thought sure the drive was toast.

This is going to be one happy 10 year old. I can almost guarantee it will bring her to tears to get those photos back. And hopefully inspire her mom to back her stuff up!

Have a wonderful day!

Nancy

Good stuff. As you said, sometimes it's not the exact tool that someone recommends, but it inspires you along the path. These are the posts I like on Tom's and why I've been active here for 9 years. The ones where people can't google something simple frustrate me sometimes. lol. How many FPS will a 970 give me in Battlefield 4 at 1920x1080? How about google 970 benchmarks, google 970 BF4. You'll find hundreds if not thousands of results and honestly, if I'm going to answer your question, that's what I'm going to do.

You listened to what we said, tried some stuff, took some initiative on your own, and you're good to go.

Very well stated! ( I'm a World of Warcraft player myself. 😛 )
