Hello, Im having a issue with my harddrive, it is a 320Gig Maxtor Diamondmax 22. i would like it to be working again, but the computer cannot find it.

I did find it in CMD though.
but here it says the following:
FS= blank.
Type= Removable
Size= 0b
status= no media.

i have tried to select the drive and used clean cmd. but get the message: Virtual Disk Service error: There is no media in the device.

Then i went to format fs=ntfs which gave me: The volume is not formattable

How do i get this harddrive to function?

Your drive sounds as if it is dead but I would recommend that you use MHDD to see if you can fix it.
Download the CD image and burn it to a CD or DVD then boot to it with your drive connected to a PRIMARY,
not SECONDARY, connection on your motherboard.
MHDD had rescued dozens of drive for me over the years.

If it does not work then you drive is definitely dead.
Hi there Jimmy_7,

Can you upload a screenshot of your Disk Management? How does the HDD appears over there?
How is the drive recognized by BIOS? In case it doesn't show its full capacity over there, then I guess there is something wrong with it.

You can do some basic troubleshooting like attaching it with a different USB cable to a different USB port.
Also, you can try testing it with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

I'm having the exact same issue with a 64GB Mushkin Ventura Pro. I typically do my work in diskpart as well. However, I did check in in Disk Management. It's just blank space, cannot add partitions or whatnot. I can, however, change the drive letter. Clean command does nothing. If I remove it's driver in Device Manager, it will auto reinstall it upon reseat. However, the diskpart/disk management situation remains unchanged. My fear is that this guy is bricked although it was just kicking ass yesterday.

Hi there 0MN1P073N7,

Unfortunately, it is possible that the device has failed. 🙁
Do you have other options except for the drive letter assign one? Have you tried to assign a different drive letter? It will not hurt to do so.
One last thing you can try is to attach it to a different system.

In case the issue persists, then you will need to get another drive.

Yes I've changed the drive letter. The voluminous service fails on everything else and I tested on two computers. I requested an RMA this morning because as much as I didn't want to admit it, it was a paperweight.
