i have a 3tb seagate hdd and since i got it ive been hearing a faint scratchy noise comming from the hdd.is this something normal?i am 3 feet away from my tower and i can hear it.its not loud but its faint and just loud enough to hear outside of my case.

Been like that since new (2 years and running, always on) It's more my case, it seems to amplify vibration and the drive is right next to the intake vent on the front so I get to hear those heads flutter away :) I'm sure if I used dampeners it would be silent.

Let's not hijack Hill Billy's thread ;) I'm not worried about it, I've had many dozens of drives over my (longer than I'll admit) career (My first HDD was 20 megs if it helps).

I think you are probably fine, just remember to always keep backups just in case!

take a look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65ZGsGSucvo just keep in mind my hardrive is not making those tick noises but if you watch this vid you will hear it makes that screeeching noise a couple of times .thats screeching noise in this guys video is exactly how my hdd sounds like but its not like as loud as his hdd its like a very faint.its still loud enough for me to hear outside of the case but again its very very faint sound.is this like normal?is that what a hdd supposed to sound like?its freaking me out.and just a reminder i did tests with hdd tune and found theres nothing wrong with my drive.

btw heres my hdd test results just incase any of you guys need to make sure http://imgur.com/a/huJHo. its a 7200rpm seagate 3tb model.also heres an older pic of my 3tb seagate from a couple months ago http://imgur.com/a/qT8EW.both results seem abit diffrent.but right now since ive been using more of my hdd i have only like 598gb left.could that be the reason of the diffrent results?

nonono the reason why it says 598 is because thatshow much i used on this disk it actually does have 598 gb left.so thats accrute.the reason why i mentioned this is maybe how much hdd i used couldve effected my benchmark?also i have fresh screenshots of new benchmarks i made after i defragged my drive.notice that the minumum transferer rate seems diffrent and not all the same.also that dip on the graph.

i just made a error scan recently and this seems wierd.http://imgur.com/a/Y29TM.i got 0.3 precent curropted/damaged sectors and i have 4 grey boxes.firstly i have no idea what the grey boxes are here and secondly i got 3 dmg sectors which probably means my drive is gone?how come i have 4 grey boxes at a 3000gb hdd scan?

with this error and health warning your drive is realy falling back-up data and get ready to ask rma if it still under warranty .what i was meaning that is the part where the hdd is at slowest speed for reading so the error could come from this part .

yeah.i just formatted my 3tb hdd and backed up on my other hdd.but im having the same noise issue with my 1tb barracuda seagate hdd.it makes the same noise as my 3tb hdd however i do not have any errors, damaged sectors or or any defects showing up and everything seems to be healthy.it makes a constant faint scratch sort of noise and loud enough to hear out of my case(similar with my 3tb hdd.)i got some vids of it is you are instrested to have a look.but im not sure which site would be the best to upload them
