I have just bought a M5a99x evo R2.0 and G skill 1866 CAS 8 with a 1090t. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 pro 64bit. I set my ram speed to 1866 by using the D.O.C.P. option in the bios and it overclocked my CPU to 3.6 by raising the bus frequency to 234, is that a crazy amount of raising it because i think stock is 200. My memory was install in slots 2&4 and bios only recognized 4gb, but windows recognized all 8gb. It said only 3.9gb was usable and 4.1 was hardware reserved. I thought it was faulty ram so I ran the windows memory diagnostic and the ram cleared no problems. I decided to start swapping the ram around in slots and see if it would fix.
When I left one stick in, it worked in slot 2. I tried a single stick in 3 & 4 but it wouldn't boot
When I had two sticks in, slot 2&4 and slot 2&3 both showed the same thing.
The only ram slot placement that works better than that is slot 1&2. I get 6.9gb usable and 1.1gb hardware reserved. Why am I getting hardware reserved memory and are my 3&4 slots faulty? Should I lower the bus speed or is it at a safe number?
