i was thinking about upgrading my pc to a i7-5960X but it isn't needed immediately. should i wait for Broadwell-E or even Skylake-E? also can you explain the benefits of each and the new technologies that they will bring?

a more recent road map says Q3 of 2016 and like i said it isn't urgently needed if i need to wait a year or 2 that's fine i wont have enough money to get it until at least 3-6 months from now

i guess i should rephrase my question is it going to be a big power increase over broadwell or is it going to be the usual incremental power increase. and the fact that you said broadwell is 6 months away (about the time i will be able to afford this) throws haswell out of the picture. also how much of an increase is broadwell over haswell or is it just a more efficient variant

Yh...mate it won't be a big difference 10% or less mate. maybe efficient but I don't think it worth waiting for broadwell like seriously, if the CPU is not 30% better which is highly unlikey there is no point waiting for broadwell. The broadwell series will be 10% or less difference with Haswell series, including the "E" series there won't be a difference worth waiting for mate.

Source is from looking at the pervious generation, like haswell and ivybridge there isnt even gap worth getting excited or admiring about. The sandybridge is not even that far from haswell and that is 2 gens ago

what about from broadwell to skylake and its going to be about 6 months before i can afford this. thats around when broadwell will be out right?

I kind of agree with this statement but then again I think the wait most likely will be a waste, I don't think intel will make broadwell all that big a gap to haswell. So if the improvement is a small gap(minor improvement)...what was the point of waiting for broadwell???? I inlcude skylake for my statement too by the way. Be prepared for marketing BS and possibly some fan boy pushovers persuading you to buy unnesscarily.

Well if its your first PC in over 4 years(sandybridge gen or before) then I guess it will be nessacary. 6 months time you can wait if u can if not just go with haswell.

i'm coming from a AMD processor ( FX- 8350) i really regret going with AMD. and like Tchota said i think it too early to judge if its worth it or not. i was just hoping that you guys new something about them that i didn't but it appears we are on the same page.

Help me understand why you really regret going with AMD?

well i guess not AMD in whole just there FX possessors. there bulldozer approach didn't turn out well. there zen processors sound like there going to give intell some hard competition. and i haven't had any of there GPUs
so cant judge them there but have seen that there pretty much on par with nvidia and occasionally better.

exactly its just there FX prossesors that i hate, i saw the 8 cores at 4GHz and was like OMG that's extreme. then found out how fast it really was and wished i read more about it so its also my fault for not getting more information about it and it was my first gaming pc and thought that just clockspeed + cores = speed. i also diden't know that games where heavily reliant on GPUs at the time so ya mixture of me not knowing about gaming PCs and AMDs poor approach at there FX possessor (mostly me though). but it still made a cheap but great first gaming PC. but now its time for MORE 😀

ya but i meant they,re on par with nividia in terms of performance

anyways where getting off topic here. i'm probably going to end this with that this question cant be answered right now due to the fact of there not being enough information on these right now and that release is still fairly far away.

ill have to go with that unfortunately the main question didn't get answered but its kinda impossible to do so right now so...... have to go with this 😀

OPINION
I realize it has now been 2.5 months since your last post, but there may be some news, based on the reviews of the pre-release samples of the Skylake 6700K. There is a new architecture in the processor including a 2x faster interlink between the processor and the chipset. This means the same will be likely true in Skyake-E as well, making it a better choice. That said, only time will tell for sure - I plan to wait, providing the timing remains near current estimate. Using i5-2500K at home with gaming graphics (2x 780Ti) and Hexacore Xeon E5-1650 v3 at the office with dual NVidia pro graphics.
