Haswell i7-4770k & G.Skill Trident X 2400MHz (1.65v)

Dear all,

I am currently planning on building the following system:http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2r67d

I have been warned that I should not buy 1.65v memory modules with this setup - because of the processor I assume.

I would greatly appreciate some help with this, as I have just ordered the memory and need to know if I must cancel it or not!

Notices a few things

#1 You would save some serious cash if you went down to 8GB. YOu don't need 2400Mhz RAM. 1600Mhz would do just fine. Would cut down your cost by 50%
#2 If you have 2x SSD. Did you mean to have just one and maybe a HDD (1TB or higher?) Would cut down your cost by 50%
#3 Are you putting a video card on this right? Don't see one listed
#4 The PSU you have here is overkill (unless you answer #3)
#5 The cooler you have might not be the most silent option for this build (it is the least costly)
#6 Are you really going to overclock on thsi board? (would save some cash on the CPU and board as well)

Running outside of that spec isn't covered under warranty if you should run into problem with a damaged memory controller on the CPU.

No one has said you can't do it. If the person who said that it is safe to do so, and is willing to pay the cost of a replacement CPU for you, then go right ahead and accept the risk.

The reason why the 1.5V is now officially stated is because some customers did damage their CPU's memory controller when they upgraded their old system from Nehalem to a new Sandy Bridge system and reused their old 1.65V memory modules where that voltage was programmed into the SPD table entries.

Low price, high bandwidth, low CAS, and low voltage.

2. Yeah, I would like to set them up in RAID 0 for optimal speed. I only use this PC for gaming, so stability isn't much of an issue.

3. Yep - a non-reference R9 290 - but i cannot decide on whether to go for the Sapphire Tri-X or the MSI Twin Frozr. I currently have the MSI card on pre-order because i read good things about their cooling systems, but then specific reviews of this are yet to surface, whereas there are some excellent reviews of the Tri-X.

5. Would you be so kind as to suggest an alternative, not much larger (since it has to fit in the BitFenix Prodigy case).

6. I'm not sure now you say that... I originally anticipated overclocking the 4770k to approx 4.1/4.2 GHz.
