At the time of writing this it is July 2016. I am currently on the hunt for a new PC for which I will be picking the parts. The PC will be used for gaming ( Nothing extreme, 1080p only). I would like to know if Skylake is worth the extra $$$ at this time or should I buy a bit older Haswell CPU?

The GPU is the AMD RX480 in case someone wonders.

Skylake is the best way to go, it doesn't cost too much over what Haswell costs and it also doesn't leave you with parts that have no upgradeability for the future, also the performance increase depending on the task is anywhere from 5-15% according to benchmarks ive seen.

just checked the pricing and surprisingly the prices for ram, mobos and cpus for Skylake are cheaper. Still the 6600k is too much for what I need and was thinking more of a 6500 or a 6400
