Have I made a huge error?

Ok, I have read through the forums and seen many topics close to this, but I wanted to ask point blank...

I'm building a new machine, and was torn over which MB to go with, having always used Asus boards in the past. But in this case, I broke down and bought myself a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R. Now I am reading some threads that say they have some issues. Did I make a mistake by not going with the Asus? Cost was a factor, but if I am going to have issues with the GB board, I would be willing to spend the extra scratch.

New system specs:
Antec 900
Corsair 620 PSU
Gigabyte MB
G. Skill 6400 (2 GB kit)
Q6600 w/ G0 stepping
evga 8800gts 320
WD raptor 74gb (software)
WD 500GB (data)
Creative xfi fata1ty
Thermalright ultra 120

I'm likely to do some mild overclocking, I hear tale that these q6600's can hit 3.6 with some decent air cooling, and would hate to find out that the MB will limit that.

Thanks in advance!

Of course OCing will vary from chip to chip, I'm realistic about my expectations, but like I said, I would rather the the proc be the limiting factor, and not the MB.

I would not worry about your Mobo.
Not everyone sees those issues and it's doubtful the issues that exist can't be resolved through BIOS updates.

If there were serious problems, the board would be flooded with such posts since enough people buy that board and don't have issues.

You should be fine....as for 3.6....well if you are willing to push the voltage then you CAN do it...but over 3-3.2 the speed increase gets less noticeable.

Also i have that board :) i like its no nonsense approach to building a board. I replaced my P5W(must have been a old rev cause it would not clock worth crap) and i am not looking back

Ok, I'm starting to feel better about this purchase. Just getting the prebuild jitters.

I'm not even worried about OC'ing that high, truth be told I wasn't planning on going over 3.2 anyway, I had just heard that q6600's COULD go that high (might have been water cooled, now that I think of it, which I might try somewhere down the line).

As long as I didn't just buy a crap board that I should RMA immediately upon receiving, I am happy. Thanks for the replies!

I like Gigabyte motherboards very much and have always bought them. They can be a little pricy but come with the dual bios and other features I have found very useful. Often I could fine no other MB that had RAID, Firewire etc onboard.

I've never had a Gigabyte MB problem (5 boards now). My kid even stuck a power cord end in a USB slot once and the MB smoked and had a big burn spot on it...but it still worked!!!

Every product will have a share of defects and isolated problems from time to time as mentioned above.

Stop reasearching after you press that "buy" button and go enjoy your new rig. It will be cheap and outdated bargain bin crap in a few months anyhow 😉
