Have questions about motherboard replacements and windows. Please help!

Hey guys,

I just purchased an MSI am3+ board to go with a new 8320 I was going to get tonight until it hit me. Will I have to reinstall windows? I'm coming from a MSI FM2-a75ma-e35 to a MSI Am3+ motherboard if that matters. My CPU will change from a Athlon II x4 750k to a 8320 or possibly a 6350 if I need to dish out more money for Windows. I'm a pretty basic guy when it comes to gaming and I'm not really in a rush to know, my 7770 is suiting me just fine for CS GO. Thanks in advance!

I'm afraid your Windows installation is linked to your motherboard. I had issues with this too. I think there may be resources online but people seem to have varying opinions on whether it's possible or not to switch motherboards.

In my experience: a new windows installation is required

you could try to reinstall it but you may have to contact them on the phone to tell that the old motherboard died they may grant you another serial number that why i always buy the retail one .
