Hey everyone,

So I have two screens that I have for my computer one which is a Samsung 28inch 4k monitor and a Samsung 55inch 4k tv which I use for my film making and photography.

Recently after purchasing the 4K tv every time I start up my computer or wake it up from sleep I am having to unplug the display port cable from my 4K monitor and then plug it back in for the computer to recognize it and I never had this problem when I had just the single 4k monitor. I then hear a connection sound the same one you get from plugging a usb in.

Another thing to note is that the tv is connected via HDMI and for some reason it defaults as the main screen for when I start the computer up to log in and I can't change it.

Is there something wrong with my monitor, I have already replaced the cable and the graphics card but this issue is still occurring?

My pc specs are
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79
CPU: i7-4820K 4-Core 3.70GHz
RAM: 32gb ram
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 980ti
PSU 750W Corsair
OS: Windows 10

Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

Kind Regards,
Daniel

It does sound like a display detection issue. I think that your 4K monitor would definitely require to be detected as the primary main display in order for this to stop happening.

A way to check this would be to connect the 4K monitor via the HDMI cable, and then connect the TV via HDMI also (or even better via DP if it has it) Then go into Nvidia Digital Display settings and see which is being detected as a primary display. I think you might have to make sure your 4K monitor is being picked up as the primary.....but i'm just surmising at this point.

The 980ti only has one hdmi port which sucks and the rest are display ports and dvis so I can only have one of each basically. But I really don't understand why it won't detect the monitor when it first starts up and that I have to unplug the cable and plug it back in. I had a look in the Nvidia control panel and when my monitor is plugged in it is set as primary but when it first starts up the tv is the only one it detects so it is set as the primary display.

I could test just the pc monitor with hdmi and display port cables and see if detects it at start up without the tv plugged in. If it still does not could it possibly mean its a faulty monitor? I mean its only a couple of months old?

I just done a quick search for this issue, and found this thread....These guys are having similar issues... Maybe something in this thread can help you?

Yeah I have seen the thread before and tried everything that everyone suggested but it still didn't help 🙁

It might be an idea to raise this with your monitor manufacturer support? Could be a specific monitor driver issue?
