Hey internet o/

I'm having a hard time finding a good monitor. I ordered a 980 now on black friday, and want to get a new monitor aswell. The one I have now is a poop ips, 59(!?)hz, 24" thing.

I'm looking at these monitors atm, but can't decide wich one:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-monitor-s27d390h
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe

I will most likely be getting three of the one I choose, so I would like the price to be kinda not too pricy. I kinda wan't the top one for it's curve, but also the bottom one for it's specs :/

If anyone could help me decide, that would be great! I am also accepting suggestions from people 😀 I'll mostly be using the monitor for gaming. Oh, and I prefer 144hz 😛

Thanks for any replies

PS. Sorry for poop english

If you are in the USA and you are okay going with a single monitor, get this deal. It is amazing.

If not wanting a single monitor, get 3 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?sdtid=8338639&SID=25adea4e99d711e5875e9214a8cc2e910000&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16824106003&cm_sp=

Promo Code EMCKNAN25 drops it to $100 a piece.

Sadly, I dont' live in the USA, but in Norway and I would prefer 144hz 😛

Can you get the QNIX QX2710 in Norway? Great monitor and you can overclock. You may not get 144Hz, but you can overclock it over 100Hz. Its PLS (Samsung's IPS) and 1440p. Really nice. I got mine for 200 USD which is really cheap.

Actually, no. Or, I can, but then I would have to order it from outside the country. And that's not cheap 🙁

i vote for the asus one 144hz for gaming is the best. you could also look a this

@Someonekilledme bummer. I got mine from Korea, but maybe you have to pay import taxes or something. Out of the ones you showed the Asus is the best. If you want higher FPS but do not need extreme FPS like 144Hz, you may look into overclocking monitors. Some 60Hz monitors that can overclock are probably cheaper.

If it were only G-Sync (GTX-980 is the OP's card)

Yea, the price for importing stuff to norway is kinda pricy when you go past a specific price. I actually haven't looked into overclocking monitors before, but that may be an option

Is g-sync worth it? 😛 There's a few on the market, but they are a bit pricier than the normale ones

The answer is always "it depends".

Screen tearing is the main reason they made G-Sync. If you do not notice screen tearing or do not care (like me), than save your money. Also even the tearing I do notice, it is not worth $200+ to fix it to me. Just my opinion.

I hear it may be very good for FPS games however. You will never get misinformed where your opponent is. If you are a competitive FPS gamer, G-Sync and 144Hz are almost a must.

This is looking interesting, a bit pricy for what I am looking for, but i could probably buy this for the main monitor and some cheaper for the other two. Because I really wan't three monitors for productivity when I actually do stuff 😛

I don't really mind tearing, unless it's insane tearing that's really freaking noticeable (as I for some reason got when playing some LoL) And I'm not really playing FPS, so then I think g-sync isn't something I should prioritize

With a single 980, I'd say go with the Asus, http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe.
You won't get 144 fps on a 1440p with the 980 so it'll be a waste.
The high refresh rate is a godsend for all first person shooters like CSGO, BO3, Battlefield 4, etc.
Once you have it you'll never go back. Just make sure that you go into your nvidia control center and verify the monitor defaulted to 144hz otherwise you might not see the benefits. Mine defaulted to 60hz and I have to go in and set it to 144hz.

EDIT: It'll be hard to get tearing at 144hz if you're running games on high and ultra settings with the 980. Even hitting 300 fps I have trouble seeing tearing on my 144hz monitor. You can always enable v-sync if you're seeing tearing as well.

Yea, I wasn't planning on 1440p, but I have tried 144hz and I hate the feel on this 59hz thing :/

If you want three monitors you could flank the VE248QE with these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236102
They're less expensive because they are 60hz and have a higher refresh rate, but if you're just using them for productivity they'll be fine and, although the stand features are a little different, they're all the same face and size so it'll still look clean.

Solution

I see, thanks for the suggestions :) I will consider this
