Having two storage devices. One SSD and the other one HDD

I will be using the SSD as the drive with the OS on and drivers and maybe a few games. But I want to make sure my computer dosen't start putting everything on the SSD (which is 120GB). How would I make the SSD the boot drive while keeping the HDD as the storage the computer automatically uses?

install internet browser on HDD so it will put internet temp file in HDD or change temp file location (ask me if you want tp know how to do it.)

Right click files such as download, documents, pictures, music. Go in properties and change their path location for a file you created in your HDD.

You shouldn't need to. The tempfile folder is not that large.

Your 120GB drive (I have one as well) can contain the OS and all your applications with ease. Apart from games.

Mine is currently ~62GB used, with no special adjustments other than redirecting static files to a different drive, turn off hibernation, and reducing the pagefile size.
All browsers, temp files, etc, etc, ALL applications , the OS...all live on the 120GB drive.

The main reason to redirect internet temp file is to reduce write/read to SSD therefore, making it lasting longer. If you watch a video on Youtube at 720P, you will download something around 500 MB of data per hour and 1 GB per hour if 1080P.

Redirecting internet temp file will make those data to be written on HDD instead of SSD. This will make your SSD last much longer.

As for how to do it. You can follow these steps if you are using Google Chrome. (or just install Chrome on HDD instead of SSD) :

Right. I get that. To wear out a current consumer grade SSD, you have to be writing several hundred GB per day, every day. For years.

Yeah but if you watch netflix on your computer and everything is on your SSD, this means that in 5 years, your SSD will have lower performance with lower capacity. I prefer to keep my $ as safe as possible to everything except for games, OS and my CAD programs are on my SSD. Everything else is in my HDD.

Watching youtube 24 hours a day, every day = 24GB writes to that drive.
Who does that?

Based on the above linked test, to start to affect the drive life, you'd have to have 25 youtube links, running nonstop, 24/7, for 5 years.

My SSD contains the OS and all appliactions apart from games.
Tempfile still lives on it. 22 months old, turned on 24/7.
Still at 100% life left.

You can if you want to. I just don't see the need for it. Recent consumer grade SSD's are far more reliable and longer lasting than earlier ones.
