So I currently have a HD 5750 and might be picking up a 550ti for free to like $50.
Dirt cheap.

So what I am asking is how much would i really gain in terms of performance if i were to switch my OC'ed 5750 for the 2gb 550ti if I am gaming at 1440x900 70% of the time?

Will the extra Gb be usefully on that low of a res?

If I use my 1080p monitor will the 550ti really be able to make use of that 2gb or is mostly for show?

I will get it either way but I would just like to know what to expect and to help me decide if it will replace my good old 5750,

Thanks in advance.

Solution
The 2gb version of the 550Ti will show a slight increase in performance doing tasks that require more than 1GB worth of graphics but to utilize 2GB, the card is simply not powerful enough. Compared to the 5750 though, the 550Ti is quicker.

It's more of a 19% increase:http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=483&gid2=417&compare=geforce-gtx-550-ti-vs-radeon-hd-5750-1024mb
Can you not get a more recent card?
You could use your old 5750 as a coaster, hammer, paper weight, throw it at someone, the possibilities are endless!

Thanks for introducing game debate to me and Lol at throwing it at someone :O haha

Well 19% isn't too bad.
And no I won't be getting anything different unless it is free like the 55ti I should be getting.
Maybe I will use the 5750 for a super budget build.

Thanks for the help.

My 5750 still has some kick left in it even after 4 years.
I can get a massive 25fps in Far cry 3 set to ultra at 1440x900.
