Hi Guys. Just wondering if you could help me with something. I'm trying to decide whether to buy a HD 6850 or a HD 7770. I know that they are old cards, however, I'm just trying to play the latest games at 720P (don't even care if it's the lowest setting). Both cards respectively cost, $32 and $36 which means price difference for me is negligible. I just want to ask you which card runs better these days since I mostly see reviews and comments stating that the hd7770 is better than the hd 6850 and vice-versa. So far, I have researched that the hd7770 still has support with the latest catalyst drivers since they are GCN. However, some say that HD6850 is still 10% faster than the hd7770 even with the legacy support.

Solution
Both nVidia and AMD have had their driver problems, with each even releasing WHQL drivers that burned up cards. Eventually these issues get sorted out (as you'd expect for 5 year old cards), although it may take some time. However new driver revisions also cause new problems, and all last year Tesla and Kepler cards failed to wake from sleep--so for a long time the drivers simply disabled sleep and hybrid sleep. It's fixed now though, and you can contrast this level of continuing support with Intel, who only update their GPU drivers for a year or so--any rendering glitches or problems are locked in forever after the final driver has been released.

I have tried looking for one here in the Philippines, however, it costs trice. The cheapest price I could see was around $100. And for a budget gpu, I could only save $30 to $40.

If you want to play the latest games then go for the HD 7770 since it's still being supported.

Or a better choice.. find another card. These cards are way too old and might be weak. Maybe if you can find a 7870 or better it's worth it more. The 7870 is still a beast.

Hi guys, thanks for your opinions. I just saw an ad for a r7 260x for $50 and I think I'll just go for that.

HD7770 can run vintage games at 768p with 4x Adaptive AA (which is MSAA, except SSAA for transparencies). HD6850 is considerably more powerful with twice the ROPs so can even run full 2x SSAA at 768p despite the lower clock speed. For modern games though, forget about it. Maybe no AA at 480p.

R7 260x is the same as HD7790 with just 100MHz faster core. As GCN 2nd gen these can do Freesync.

GT1030 isn't really any faster than any of those in vintage games, but is much, much faster in modern ones.

I just wanted to ask since I have seen reviews before that some r7 260x are reported to have random black screens, crashes and artifacts. Does the problems still persist with the newest drivers of today?

Oh, I see. Okay, thanks. It's worth a shot I guess. Since I am using the IGPU of G4560.
