HD goes into standby?

Howdy! My HD seems to have a problem and I hope to get some advice. When I am working in a program for a while and then I close the program and go to open Windows Explorer it takes it a while to open up and I can hear the HD and CD-Rom winding up and then Windows Explorer finally opens up. Is this a software issue or a bios issue or what? Thanks for the advice, luces

I think it is due to your Power Management Settings. Check those, specifically, the "turn off hard disks after.... minutes" option.
