Hi, I have a problem with my backup HW - it connects fine, but then stops working after a while (endlessly tries to load data, certain file are good, but some can never be copied, opened etc...). Macrium reported corrupted MFT and advised to run chkdsk /r, but that fails randomly near 20%. Testdisk didn't discover any problem with mft.

Is there any way to extract data other than trying it file by file? There is a lot of data / files to be copied... Is there any way to fix the HD?

Yes, a second copy, all important data should be on the main backup. There are some old, not essential data on it that I would still like to have. Is there any easier way to get them but going file by file and manually skipping files that do not work?

EDIT: it seems that HD will always fail after some time, but if I copy individual files, it will work.

Large files are likely to fail, but at a different percentages of copy, and sometimes they go through. Even videos that failed multiple times in copying can still be played to the end. It seems that the longer HD is under constant usage the likelier it gets that it becomes unresponsive.
