[SOLVED] HD .ts and .mkv files choppy playback?

Hello,

not sure if this is the correct section but im just looking for a bit of help. i have some very big high qaulity 1080i video files in .ts and .mkv formats and when i try playing on vlc or mpc classic i always get choppy playback making it unwatchable, id like to think i have a pretty powerful computer for gaming and should have no issues with playing hd videos. I have an intel core i5 8400 six core processor and a nvidia gtx 1060 6gb graphics card along with 16gb ddr4 ram. When playing the videos my cpu is 6% usage and memory 30% usage. I am using 64bit windows 10 and am exhausted of what to try.

In VLC, did you enable Hardware Accelerated Decoding (under Tools>Preferences>Codec's)

Your computer seems OK, have you checked your HD? Can you run Crystaldiskinfo and CrystalDiskMark and share the results. And I would try to copy the content to an USB drive and play from the USB Drive.
