Hello everyone.

I recently got a SSD (Kingston 240GB) and proceeded to install the OS, but I already have a HDD in which there's Windows 8.1. Now both of them have the same OS, but in the BIOS only appears the HDD as an option for booting order (also the RW unit and UEFI).

First of all I want to set a dual boot, but I can't figure how since the SSD doesn't appear. And second to fix that odd problem that doesn't show me the SSD.

Also, I can start the OS from the SSD but I have to go into the BIOS and select it from a different menu, otherwise the PC will load the HDD OS, and both the SSD and the HDD can be seen as a storage unit in the opposite Windows.

Thank You Beforehand.

Well, first of all, there's no point in a "dual-boot" setup unless both drives have different OSs (i.e. 8.1 on SSD, 7 on HDD). So unless there's a specific reason to keep an OS installed on both drives, you should wipe it off of one or the other. This is probably why you're not getting a dual-boot selection in the first place.

Secondly, you'll run into a license/key issue unless you have 2 separate Windows 8.1 keys. So really make sure you want to have the same OS on different drives for dual-boot purposes.

Thirdly, what motherboard do you have? The BIOS should allow you to select which drive you want to boot from first, & obviously you should want the SSD to be selected first. Does it not give you the same prompts that the manual shows?

The OS issue is only temporal, I still have to make a backup of my HDD and format it. I think I'll forget about the dual boot up. But concerning about the Board I have an Asus Z77-A, the problem is; when I disconnect both SSD and HDD and connect only one of them again, the BIOS loses trace of the drive and turns it into a UEFI boot up, then I have to press F5 to reset all settings and then the BIOS recognizes the drive. If both of them are connected, the BIOS only recognizes the first one I connected.
And, no, the anvanced options shows a more dominant boot order setup, the simplified BIOS doesn´t give me that option, only one of the drives appear.
