Hdd autodetect issue

My bios seems to loose settings or something because I have to detect the HDD manually after every shutdown. I have just installed a new 80gb samsung spinpoint HDD and it works fine tested with multiple HDD testing tools (HIRENS). I believe the bios has gone bad. The hdd is on the first IDE controler and is set as primary master. Why is this happening ?

Not sure it's the BIOS. It could be the HDD that is bad.

Is your BIOS up to date? Other than that I don't know what to suggest aside from testing the drive into another PC.

the hdd is brand new and its been tested in another pc and worked great and if im facing a bios issue how do i update it ?

Check the motherboard manufacturer's website in the download drivers section you'll find latest BIOS version and instructions on how to flash it.
