I need to clone my current HDD onto another HDD. I downloaded DriveImage XML to clone it but it says "Note you must put the image into an existing partition. If necessary create a new partition with Windows Disk Management."

What do I do?

Update: It says "Clone failed" "Failed to volume snapshot. Result code 0x80042306"

Clicking the link shows three different downloads, which one do I get?

I got failure message.

A problem was encountered with the operation of the Volume Shadow Copy Service. The copy was aborted (<error>).Casper displays this message if a volume snapshot cannot be created for the source device or if the volume snapshot is subsequently lost. This problem is commonly caused by an improper COM configuration, but may be the result of a device I/O failure.

Sorry to say (as mcnumpty pointed out) that there's a problem with your system, most likely the source source disk (and possibly with your destination disk as well) that prevents a viable disk-cloning operation. It's unfortunate but it happens. Very difficult to correct other than fresh-installing an OS onto your present boot drive and reinstalling all your programs & other data. And even that's not a certainty because you may be dealing with a defective disk. And the problem may extend to the destination disk as well.
But in the meantime give this a try...
Assuming you haven't done so already format the 1 TB HDD and hope that resolves the problem. Probably won't but give it a try.
Other than that as long as your present boot drive boots & functions without any major problems you would just have to live with this situation.

I formated the new drive. It now shows that the new drive is 500gb and not 1tb. It says 1tb on the label, did something happen?
Can I just install Windows 10 on my new drive and boot from that without cloning?

What's sfc/scannow? Where can I find that?

I wouldn't mind installing windows 10 again. Would I have to buy it again or can I use my product key?

I'll try the scanning thing now.

Well, I am planning on changing the motherboard in the next few weeks.

Okay, I did that and it seems like there was an error. I clicked restart and repair. PC restarted and showed a blue screen with the message "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. You can restart now." this happened twice before it was able to repair itself. After the repair, I went back and checked the C drive with what you said to do and showed no errors.
I decided to switch over to my laptop while my PC is doing stuff.
What's next?

Alright, I'll try cloning again. Thanks for the help man. I'll keep posting about what happens.

Update: I'm getting farther in the cloning process than I did earlier. Hopefully it finishes.

Update #2: Everything seems to be booting up properly. only issue I see is that the new HDD shows its max capacity is 451gb when before I formatted it the very first time it had 1tb.
What can be done about this?

Where can I find Disk Management?

Update: Nevermind I found it lol.

Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it!
