HDD Defrag Problem.

So i defragged my hdd with Auslogics Disk Defrag
but the windows default defragment tool says my hdd is 100% fragmented what the heck?

Have never seen a HDD completely 100 fragmented. Might click the MS Defrag Analyze button again and get a second opinion. Could it possibly say 100% defragmented instead, after the Auslogics ran?

Another way to view the fragmentation is check the visual file location band below of the MS defrag. There will be a few "disconnected" bands but almost all will be adjacent starting at the left side of the graph.

I did it again (defrag) and now its 0% fragmented but i installed a 9 gigabyte game and its already 7% fragmented is that bad?

After installing games you need to defrag. This is just how Windows and NTFS works.

Also the drive that is fragmented quickly is empty and i attempted to install game to that empty drive and suddenly it grew to 9% fragmented is that normal? btw my 1tb drive which is almost full is only 7% fragmented

Also i just unistalled that game and it returned to 0% is that normal? or a defective drive?

There are too many defrag tools but Windows defrag never goes wrong.

HI again,
No that's OK. The fragmentation report told you it is functioning OK. How fast a HDD becomes fragmented with files depends of several factors, including how big the HDD is, how large the individual files are making up the added program, and how tight the degrag program moved files together. Would guess the smaller game files were placed up front between older files and the larger files were placed at the tail of the previously "defragmented files". I have found that defragging a volume more than once will generate a tighter defragmentation, and sometimes using two different defragmenters, like Auslogisc and Piriform's defraggler, or the MS defrag which have different algorithms, even does a better job. And of course some files can't be moved, and on occasion some are placed at the end of the volume. Also the pagefile is usually located in the middle of the disk, so that makes it harder to get a completely unfragmented result.

Win-10 does defrag a non SSD, HDD about once a week as a default, during quiet time, so you may see less fragmentation without your doing anything.

Yes, the image looks good. and the drives are well defragmented.
Was also going to mention that when you uninstall a program or a game from your HDD, it may leave some unused sectors available for use, but it doesn't necessarily cause fragmentation.

I wouldn't worry too much about disc fragmentation, unless your computer is older and slower. Used to be a decade ago you could see the benefit in speed after defragmentation but with faster CPU's you can't really tell much of a speed difference. Would also let Windows "trim" the OS SSD you have. You don't want to be defragging it separately.

For the SSD i have a separate program optimising it so yea it should be ok but i dont know if its necessary to do so cause i heard defragment on ssd can be detrimental

Im mostly worried about my other drive it seems to be 100% fragmented everytime i install a game but when i defragment it it defragments very easily and fast back to 0% is it defective?
