Hi guys,

So I have Macrium Reflect, but I've been having issues with backing up my HDD. Every single time I'm trying to back it up onto an external hard drive, the HDD ends up dismounting itself and then my computer won't detect it so it stops the backup from happening midway. I'm forced to restart my computer so that it'll come back, but I'm unable to back it up.

Please help! This is really frustrating. I have no idea why this is happening.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+
CPU: AMD FX-4350 Vishera Quad-Core 4.2 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W
Graphics Card: Galaxy 66NPH7DV6VX Geforce GTX 660 Ti 2GB
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2x4GB)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0 Gbs AND Crucial MX100 256GB SSD
PSU: Rosewill CAPSTONE-650-Watt 80 PLUS Gold

In my opinion it is an issue with your backup software. Try using a different one if it isn't that call Microsoft support as it is likely an OS problem

My external drive is USB, but I'm not totally sure if it has its own power wart. I mean it doesn't have to connect to a power outlet to receive power. Also my SSD was able to backup fine. It's just my HDD that's having issues.

This means it's being powered by the USB port.

The ST2000DM001 is a 3.5" drive. A desktop drive is usually recommended to be self-powered, not rely on USB.

Also my SSD was able to backup fine. It's just my HDD that's having issues.
And a SSD takes minuscule power compared to a 3.5"

OK, you know where am going with this.

I'm not too sure if I do know.

The drive that I gave you (ST200DM001) is an internal hard drive. It's the drive that I use for storage on my computer.

The external hard drive uses the USB to connect to the computer.
