Hi, I installed my applications/softwares and projects on the D drive which then something unknown happened that caused my applications to lag and freeze sometimes when I am using it. Window Explorer also freezes abit. This never happened before.

The day my D drive started to freeze my applications, it suddenly went missing after a window update, i tried restarting and restoring to point but they are not fixing it. Then it came back after I shut down the computer power completely and turning it on.

So right now my situation is that the applications still freezes sometimes and I think it's because of the D drive since they are installed on it. I tried chkdsk, check for disk errors, defrag analyse(1%) , update drivers, all of them shows nothing wrong. On top of that, this PC is new (less than a year old).

Anyone has any idea what's wrong?
my HDD is a Seagate Barracuda
thanks

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

Are you sure that the D: drive is fully and firmly connected?

Look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer for error codes, warnings, or even informational events captured just before or at the time the problems occur.

Start with Reliability History. Much more end user friendly and the timeline format may reveal patterns.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort to navigate and understand. To help with Event Viewer:

How To - How to use Windows 10 Event Viewer | Tom's Hardware Forum (tomshardware.com)

Both tools allow you to click on any given entry for more information and details. The information and details may or may not be helpful.

Thanks, I used those tools and found some info.

From Reliability history:
Critical Error highlighted in bold
Description
A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Code: 1cc

Besides theses, there are a bunch of other critical errors with the same problem event name:APPCRASH

My PC specs
Black Processor Brand: Intel Core Processor Processor: Intel Core i7-13700KF Motherboard: Asus B660 TUF Plus Gaming Wi-Fi & Bluetooth (DDR4) Cooler: ID Cooling SE226-XT - Black Graphics Card: Nvidia RTX 3060 12 GB - Asus SSD: Transcend MTE220S 1 TB NVMe - R:3500/W:3200 Additional SSD: No Additional SSD HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2 TB HDD Additional HDD: No Additional HDD Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB 3600 MHz - Black Power Supply: Silverstone 650 W 80+ Gold Operating System: Activated Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Card: Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Included RGB

D:drive is 850gb free out of 1.81gb. I installed alot of heavy applications on this drive for example Unreal, unity.

I checked that it feels fully secure in the case, not loose.

I'd just replace the Barracuda spinner with another SSD...

Look for a Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB to hit sale prices for $119 again on Amazon!

(Perhaps make sure within power mngmt that the spinning drive is not ever spinning down to conserve power, which would/could cause significant lag when it has to spin back up)

Are you able to see any error codes or App Names in the errors?

Any other error codes besides "1cc"?

FYI:

https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/appcrash.html

Just see what you can discover and post accordingly.

= = = =

Google code "1cc"

For example:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...code-1cc/62876e14-d82c-490d-b59d-b6f6e73ca463

My search results suggested various causes - RAM being a possibility.

And ensure that all important data (on all drives) is backed up off of the current host system. Verify that the backups are recoveralble and readable.

Yeah the full error shows this ->

Description
A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Code: 1cc
Parameter 1: ffff91039d6a4e90
Parameter 2: ffff910398ea8080
Parameter 3: 221
Parameter 4: 96
OS version: 10_0_19045
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1
OS Version: 10.0.19045.2.0.0.768.101
Locale ID: 18441

--------------------------------------

Done the windows ram memory test which shows no error
Done the disk cleanup which shows nothing to clean
Update video card shows nothing to upgrade/update.

I still have warranty so maybe i can get a new HDD replacement? but prefer not to do that due to too much work involved. Hopefully I can get the bottom of this issue...

Also found more critical errors from event viewer but unsure if they are all related ->

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {0358B920-0AC7-461F-98F4-58E32CD89148}. The error:
"2147942767"
Happened while starting this command:
C:\Windows\system32\DllHost.exe /Processid:{3EB3C877-1F16-487C-9050-104DBCD66683}

DCOM and DLLHost??

Huge amount of relocated sectors - 47K!
The drive is not dead yet, but definitely on the way out.
It has lost 18% of drive health in 4 months. With same progression tendencies it will be dead in 1.5 years.

I'd replace it.
And avoid Seagate Barracuda line drives. Those are all SMR with inconsistent write performance.

BTW - how are you treating your pc?
Something like this?

so the root cause is due to the HDD bad condition with the reallocation sectors? Or perhaps can be something else?

I used my PC with Unreal everyday, perhaps the intensive usage caused it to wear down so quick. Unreal engine is quite a performance heavy application.

With 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro models occasionally on sale at $119, why worry much over spinners, beyond their utility for providing economical, large amounts of 'luke warm', occasionally accessed bulk storage. But for games and apps installation? SSDs all the way!

(For those that might have no available NVME M.2 slots, the Crucial MX500 in 2 TB is occasionally all of $79...! Good times!)

So i guess i should put the intensive applications on SSD instead of HDD from what i googled. I am using that application too much which break the hdd perhaps...

Not familiar with writes but it seems that pple are installing unreal on SSD or SSD NVME.
I was talking about write endurance for SSDs.
Read here, if you're not familiar with the concept.

So out of the blue, my pc started repairing the drive error upon restart for 20 minutes but didn't really make it all good again - transfer files, opening files still freezes but less.

I am curious if refreshing PC can help fix my HDD problem? Or how about resetting it?
