HDD Getting very hot?!

I have a HP 17-eo64nr Laptop and my HDD will often get hot. ( I know this is normal for some heat from it ) but it will get so hot that I can not use my laptop on my lap. Almost burning to the touch at times. I have taken the casing apart and cleaned the dust out extensively. The fan works just fine and blows only 'luke warm' air. Can anyone explain to me why this happens and a possible fix?

No not really. The only process really using any amount of disk is skype ( I am constantly on business calls using it ) also I am in one as I checked the usage.

Then I am not sure sorry. I thought it was an anti virus software that was running making the hdd hot. I would check what is using the hdd as that program or process will be making it hot. The other thing could be that the thermal paste has worn out and might need to be reapplied.

The HDD has no thermal past...it isn't even vented. Because it is not supposed to get hot. So I am not sure either. thanks for the help.

The thermal paste doesn't go on the hdd, I think it goes on the copper pipes. I am not an expert on this as I don't like to tinker with my laptop internals. Most likely something is using the cpu a lot like an anti virus program or even windows update.

Its not the cpu getting hot. They are on 2 separate corners of my laptop. I know it is the HDD because I took off the panel that covers the HDD and felt it directly. It was what the heat was. Its not a background process. I have watched the Resource manager and Task manager and nothing stands out. Only Skype but I am using that for Audio and Video chat. And I am literally in a group call more then 8 hours a day.

I have ran chkdsk and everything is fine. They harddrive has no reason to fail. Other than it getting too hot. I recently Installed another 4 GB of RAM and it doesn't get as hot but still gets hot

chkdsk finds failures. What I'm talking about is potential failure.
