I recently purchased an ASUS M5A97 motherboard, a corsair 750w psu and a gtx 970.. i already had an amd phenom ii x6 1100t black edition 8 GB DDR3 RAM and a Seagate 2TB HDD.. after putting it all together and installing windows 8.1 64 bit i was running things fine.. games and stuff.. but my UPS has been screwed for sometime.. so I was running without it.. Yesterday there was a short powercut.. for around 2-3 mins.. and the PC switched off.. ever since i've been trying to start it up again, the boot process gets stuck at either the Windows 8.1 logo and loading page, or Preparing Automatic Recovery, or it stops with a message that BIOS cannot find compatible bootable drives. I've tried re-installing windows 7 ultimate 64bit through a bootable flash drive.. but even that doesn't make anything happen.. if the HDD gets recognized, it stops at the windows 7 setup 'starting windows' screen.. and if the HDD isn't recognized.. it goes till the setup page and asks for appropriate CD/DVD drivers even though i don't have an optical drive.. and the bootable flash drive i created through rufus.. Can anyone please help me out? Could the hard drive be screwed for good? 🙁

Hi there Sudipto Pati,

You can download a brand specific testing tool(DOS version) and test the drive. You can take the drive out, attach it to another system and test it with the Windows version of the testing tool.
It will not hurt to change SATA port as well as both power and SATA cable.

Hope any of this helps,
