i just ordered a hdd online just for storage however my pc does not have a hdd bracket, i have an ssd where i kind of just let it hang since i heard that SSDs are less prone to vibration (it's been fine so far, almost a year old now) and breaking like HDDs so i'm not sure how to place my hdd without running into issues

What is the make/model of your case?
What kind of a case does not have at least some provision to mount drives.
Did you order a 2.5" HDD or a 3.5"HDD?
A 3.5" hdd will be heavy and definitely needs support.
HDD brackets are cheap.

however my pc does not have a hdd bracket
Is this a pre built used computer. Yeah I can see where a used Dell or HP before sale the hard drive was removed and they also removed the cage the hard drive was in and didn't put it back for new owner. Than yes there is no logical place to mount drive.

Like everyone has said post some pictures and list model of your case.

Use screws and attach HDD to the plate.

A ssd can certainly mount in any orientation.
You really only need two screws to secure a drive.

A HDD can also mount in any orientation, but, being a mechanical device, I would think horizontal would be the preferred orientation.

For that, without a proper bracket. drill two mounting holes in the bottom of the case to secure the HDD

haha i've thought about that as well, sadly i do not own a drill. thanks for the suggestion tho

Just throwing my 2 cents in, you can double side tape a SSD pretty much anywhere, I recommend Velcro, that way int he future if you need to remove that SSD for any reason, it will be much easier to remove than double sided tape, I've been there done that, it sucks.
