Question HDD read speed spikes when gaming

I am the owner of an Acer Aspire A717-72G. For some background info I store all my games onto my HDD and only use my SSD for important applications like Chrome and Discord. Whenever I play a game, it does not matter which, whether it be Terraria, Minecraft, or Dota 2 my HDD usage will randomly spike up to 100 (specifically my read speed) for about 1-2 seconds causing my game to freeze. I've run virus scans and I've run chkdsk but neither have stopped this. Is there anything else I can do? Here's what my HDD typically looks like in Task Manager when in-game

Most likely when the games are loading/caching maps or other resources.

Yup, it sounds normal. Perhaps an SSD would help?

That would be optimal but this laptop has one M.2 slot which houses my OS and one SATA slot. I'm thinking I will just upgrade my HDD
