Hi. I found this forum and hope anybody here can help me. I've read through a couple of threads with similar issues, but didn't find a solution so I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to start a new thread. I have an old WD IDE hard drive that I'm trying to recover data from. The hard drive is currently showing as not initialized and unknown. All I see is Disk1, not initialized, and unknown. Nothing else. No size or any other info. The hard drive is spinning and I took it a repair shop and they told me within minutes that they can see the data in the drive and could recover it, but there was a charge, off course.I know they saw the data because they named the folders in it. So if they can see it, why can't I? I have bout an IDE/SATA to USB kit have the drive connected that way. I have tried the MiniTool Parition Wizard and Asoft Data Recovery programs and neither find the drive. Any advice? Thanks in advanced!

Hi there wayala,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
Is the drive recognized by BIOS as having its full capacity?
As the guys at the repair shop told you withing minutes that they can see the data, then I guess they've used a data recovery tool as well.

So, I guess you could consider trying some other data recovery tools as well: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

Apart from that, you could consider what CountMike suggested as well. If the drive is 3.5'', you need power cable as well.

Just keep in mind that in case the data stored on the drive is really important, you will need to contact a data recovery company.
