I have a Western Digital Black(WD2003FYPS) 2TB drive, and use it with my Mac.
I took a backup on this drive of some very important data, and then proceeded to format my laptop. The disk sat on my desk for around a week, and it was free of any magnetic interference to the best of my knowledge.

Now, when I try plugging that disk to my computer, it says that the disk is unintilalized, and will need to be formatted in order to be used. The disk had one partition, using full 2TB of space, OSX extended journaled format, and the partition table was GUID.

I had some very important data on that drive, what can I personally do to try to recover it?

Hey there, thisissparta!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues recognizing the WD Black! 🙁 Are you trying to access it through the Mac again or from a desktop PC? If it's connected to the Mac I'd suggest you go to Disk Utility and try to test the HDD for defects from there.

Are you using a SATA-to-USB cable with an Adapter or a docking station? I'd suggest you try switching the USB ports and also attempt to connect it with a different cable. If you have access to another OSX computer, I'd advise you attempt to get the WD Black detected there as well.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!
