[SOLVED] HDD to SSD OS transfer issue

I just got a Samsung 500gb SSD and want to transfer my OS to it. My HDD is a 1tb drive. I can’t seem to migrate the OS system to my SSD because all the tools I try to use are trying to migrate my entire C drive (which is twice the size) to the SSD. Can anyone tell me how to migrate just the OS system? I’m stumped

How much of the hard drive is filled with data?

If its below 500gb or so you can transfer it, otherwise no.

I guess I should have researched it more. I would have spent a little more and got the 1tb

If you have nearly 1tb of data, how do you expect it to all fit onto a 500gb drive. It cant.

I would backup any of the data you need then install fresh.

I thought you could pick and choose what you wanted to transfer over to the ssd. Didn’t know it was all or nothing

No you cannot. There is no pick and choose, except for maybe partitions on that 1TB.
If it is all one partition...that's it.
