HDD to SSD question

Hello all,

I just put a Samsung EVO 250 250gb SSD in my Win 10 desktop that had a 2TB HDD as the primary boot drive which had a C and D partition. Did the clone process, changed boot order (it keeps defaulting to BootManager though), made sure its running AHCI and such. System sees all three drives now. Also used the Samsung Magician software to tune the ssd.

When I look at diskmgmt, it still looks the the C drive is primary as it shows (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) whereas the SSD drive shows (Primary Partition) only. Am I still missing something? Should I have switched the plugs on the motherboard or something?

When I was able to change boot order to the ssd, Windows boots up and then starts flashing intermittently and I have to shut down and reorder boot back to Boot Manager.

Any help is appreciated!

sorry paul but what do you mean by 'did the clone process'? Did you clone the boot partition of the 2TB HDD to the SSD?

Seems you did something wrong during the clone process.

Start over. These steps:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the original boot partitions, here:

Worked like a charm. I forgot to select the recovery partition the first time I cloned. Didn't realize you had to do that. Additionally, I didn't change the drive locations on the motherboard. Many thanks!!!
