HDMI display is shifted left, VGA is fine

My new build has an Intel i7-4771 in an ASUS Z87-A motherboard. I'm using the built-in graphics from the CPU / MB (no video card). When I connect either its HDMI or DVI output to my LG L246WP monitor, the display is shifted left about 100 to 200 pixels, so the left part of the display is missing, and there is an empty dark band on the right. If I connect its VGA output, the display looks fine. This is true in both the BIOS and in Windows. The monitor's HDMI input works perfectly with other computers. I have updated the BIOS with the latest version from the ASUS website. Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas? TIA.

Well it should be something with your monitor. Try to reposition the screen with the monitor's command buttons.

Thanks for your reply. The monitor has position controls when I select its VGA input, but these are disabled for the HDMI input. I believe this is to be expected, since the digital video signal doesn't need scaling or positioning, it should just be correct. Unfortunately, mine isn't!

I borrowed a friend's monitor and connected it to the HDMI output from my new computer, and the display looks just fine. So there is a problem with my old monitor; I was confused because the old monitor works just fine with my old computer, and the problem didn't show up until I tried the new computer. Oh well, better look for a new monitor!

Sorry, yes, I did try that. I've been through all the items in the monitor's on-screen menus, and nothing helped. Tried different display resolutions in Windows, made no difference.
