I'm in a situation where I need to replace a media converter (HDMI >Coax) that's having intermittent issues. My thinking is to get rid of the coax (and convertor) and just run an HDMI cable and connecting to the local machines 2nd HDMI port. The question I have is related to the maximum distance an HDMI cable can be, without a repeater, before the signal begins to degrade. The distance between points A and B is approximately 300' and its used solely to present a media presentation a few times a week for 2-3 hours. I intend to use a booster/repeater but need to know where along a 300' span would be the advantageous place to place one.

I have searched the web and am getting a lot of different answers. Any help is appreciated.

Yep, HDMI over ethernet would seem to be the way to go. Might want to get a Category 7 cable for the extra shielding (100m limit (330feet))

I've seen some HDMI cables that convert in cable to optical and back on the other end, but they were very expensive as I recall. Maybe not too bad these days though, not sure I can trust these brands, but Amazon has listing for 100m cables for only $120.

Thank for the info. We're pretty much of the same mind and looking at the same things. I pulled the trigger on two 150' cables and a repeater/booster. The booster is powered and should ensure the signal is as strong as it can be regardless of the length.
